Installation & Theme App Embed Setup — RUTHH COD Form & Upsells

Activate the RUTHH COD Form & Upsells Theme App Embed (cod-app-embed) in your Shopify Theme Editor so the COD button, modal/inline form, and storefront coordinators load on your store without editing theme.liquid.

  • RUTHH COD Form & Upsells is installed on your Shopify store.
  • You have permission to edit the active theme in Online Store → Themes.
  • At least one delivery country is enabled in Form Builder → Form Designer (Countries card).

1. Open the Theme Editor from the App Home Checklist

Section titled “1. Open the Theme Editor from the App Home Checklist”
  1. In Shopify Admin, open RUTHH COD Form & Upsells (/app).
  2. Locate the Theme App Embed status card on the Home setup checklist.
  3. Click Enable in Theme Editor. This uses buildThemeEditorUrl to open your active theme editor with the cod-app-embed extension pre-selected (?context=apps&activateAppId={apiKey}/cod-app-embed).

2. Save the App Embed in Shopify Theme Editor

Section titled “2. Save the App Embed in Shopify Theme Editor”
  1. In the left sidebar of the Shopify Theme Editor (under the App embeds tab), verify that RUTHH COD Form & Upsells is toggled On.
  2. Click Save in the top-right corner of the Theme Editor.
  3. Return to the RUTHH COD Form & Upsells Admin tab. The app uses useEmbedActivation() (shopify.app.extensions()) on window focus to detect activation and updates the status badge to Active.

3. Optional: Place the Manual Product Block (cod-form)

Section titled “3. Optional: Place the Manual Product Block (cod-form)”

By default, the App Embed (cod-app-embed) automatically coordinates placement on product pages (form[action*="/cart/add"]) and cart pages/drawers (button[name="checkout"], input[name="checkout"]).

If you want to control the exact vertical position of the COD trigger or embedded form inside a specific product template:

  1. In Shopify Theme Editor, navigate to Products → Default product (or your custom product template).
  2. Under the Product information section, click Add block and select COD Form (cod-form) under Apps.
  3. Drag the block to your preferred position (for example, directly below the variant picker or buy buttons) and click Save.
  • Unpublished themes: If you are testing on a draft/unpublished theme, open the Theme Editor for that specific theme via Online Store → Themes → Customize and enable the App Embed under App embeds.
  • Status badge still says “Inactive” after saving in Theme Editor:
    1. Confirm you saved the App Embed on your published (live) theme rather than a draft theme.
    2. Click back into the app window or refresh /app so shopify.app.extensions() re-queries the active theme state.
  • COD button does not appear on Product or Cart pages after activation:
    1. Check Settings → Visibility (/app/settings) and verify Form Display is not set to Disabled (or restricted to Cart page only when viewing a product page).
    2. Verify the product is not excluded by your product/collection targeting rules or min/max subtotal bounds.
